A few weeks back I participated in a blogging workshop. It was supposed to be several months ago, but ya know, covid. It was put on by Author and Blogger, Amanda Zieba. I’ve known Amanda my whole life and was excited to work with her in a new capacity. If you have ANY interest in writing, blogging, becoming an author, teaching writing, I HIGHLY recommend you check out her work and her workshops! She knows her stuff!
One of the things I had been working on previous to this workshop and was motivated to continue working on was fine-tuning the brand of Stammeyer Farmstead and Harvesting Roots. I have long wanted to build something bigger on our farm, making the land work for us, rather then the reverse. Along with that, I wanted to create a stronger connection between my blog and our farm. We had decided to give them two different names, so finding this connection has been a challenge for me.
Alas, I have come up with the a logo design that works for both and really represents our farm, our family and my blog. I’m pretty proud of this little guy! Let me share with you the details and how our logo came to be.
Very early on in my blog writing I decided to use primarily pictures I took. Very few of the picture you have seen on this blog come from any stock photos. I really enjoy creating graphics and design work (Have you checked out the new SHOP page??). One of my favorite places to take pictures is right out my front door looking at our horse barn. It faces east and I love watching the sun come up behind it. It became a focal point for me and something I found unique to our farm. I decided I wanted that image to be what people associated with our name. I began to digitize it but felt it was still missing something.
At the blogging workshop we were asked to come up with a word or two that we were a “nerd” about. Amanda likes to call herself a “word nerd” as she focuses on reading, writing and teaching. She asked to find our passion and name it. The word I came up with was Thyme. Yes, like the plant. I know it sounds weird, but let me explain… and go further back in my story. About a year and a half ago, I chose to participate in an out patient program to get my mental health in check. I chose this program to avoid inpatient therapy and committal that would have taken me away from my family when my babies needed me. I needed to do something to get healthy. I didn’t want my life to be done. I knew I needed help, and I got it. One of the topics discussed throughout the program was the courage it took to get help, the courage it took to choose life, the courage it took to admit I wasn’t healthy but I wanted to be. Courage became my motto. As well as the reminder that there is always time to fix “it,” as long as I’m here. Whatever the issue, the problem, the challenge, it can be fixed. Fixing isn’t always easy, it’s rarely quick, but it is doable. There is always more time. When cruising the internet, looking at the topics of time and courage, I discovered that in ancient times Thyme represented courage, bravery and strength. Time=Thyme=Courage. The universe spoke to me. So the wreath around the barn in our logo is Thyme. Our reminder to have courage and value the time we are given.
Introducing the Stammeyer Farmstead and Harvesting Roots logo! We have plans to start using this logo to promote our brand as farm, blog, business and family. We thank you for continuing this journey with us!
Happy Harvesting,
Leah
